It is an eating pattern that cycles between periods of fasting and eating. It’s currently very popular in the health and fitness community. Unlike traditional diets that specify which foods you should eat, It focuses on when you should eat. In other words, it’s more accurately described as an eating pattern rather than a strict diet.

This involves an 8-hour eating window followed by a 16-hour fasting period. You can skip breakfast or dinner, depending on your preference.

With this method, you fast for 24 hours once or twice per week. It’s slightly more advanced, so consider trying it only if you’re comfortable with fasting.

On two non-consecutive days of the week, you consume only 500–600 calories, while eating normally on the other 5 days.

Some research suggests intermittent fasting can help with weight loss and benefit brain and heart health. However, if you decide to try it, it’s important to choose the right option for you and do it safely. During fasting periods, you won’t eat anything, but you can usually drink calorie-free beverages like water, herbal tea, and black coffee. Over time, reducing your eating window can contribute to weight loss. Additionally, fasting triggers changes at the cellular and molecular level such as increased human growth hormone (HGH) levels and decreased insulin levels.
